Dortech Maintenance was recently called to a high-rise residential building where a window at the 18th storey had almost come out of its frame during high winds. The fire brigade had already intervened using safety ropes to prevent it from falling.

Our rope access specialists and internal engineers were deployed immediately. They secured the failing window back into position and made the area safe. During the process, they discovered that one of the glass panes had already cracked under severe wind loading.

Despite the height and challenging conditions, the team stabilised the opening and fully resecured the window to prevent further risk to residents or the public.

“Wind pressure increases dramatically with height, and large window units on upper floors take the full force of that. When maintenance is neglected, even a small fault can escalate into a major safety risk.”

David Hircock — Maintenance Director

This incident is a clear reminder of what can happen when regular window and façade maintenance is overlooked, especially on tall residential blocks and city-centre towers.

We strongly recommend annual inspections to identify issues early — long before they become dangerous.

🌬️ Key safety reminders:
  • Keep windows closed and latched during storms.
  • Arrange annual façade & window inspections.
  • Act quickly if you notice movement or draughts.
