Dortech Maintenance were contacted by L&B Developments to assess a glass breakage at one of their properties located at Shire House, in Bradford. The breakage was assessed and was believed to have arisen as a result of a thermal break. Thermal break in glass can occur when two areas of the glass are heated at different rates.
For instance, in hot weather, the centre of the pane warms up faster than the surrounding edges. With this happening the centre of the glass begins to expand forcing the surrounding edges to expand at the same rate inducing a tensile stress and under excessive amounts of stress causing the glass to break.
Our team arranged for a road closure and arranged for suitable access equipment to be utilised to replace the broken glass unit.
